Hallsta paper mill at the forefront of condition monitoring
Holmen Paper Hallstavik continues to be at the forefront of condition monitoring. At the paper mill in Hallstavik, preventive maintenance work has always been a priority and condition monitoring is a continuous work process within all departments of the mill.
Hallsta paper mill has a long history of working closely with SPM in the development of new products and methods. When the new shock pulse technology SPM HD was developed, Hallsta was the first plant to field test the method and upon test completion, the mill took over the monitoring system for implementation on four wire presses.
Although the mill in Hallstavik has been forced to cut back on their production capacity and workforce through the closure of the PM3 paper machine, condition monitoring investments continue for the remaining production on PM11 and PM12. Four portable Leonova Diamond instruments have recently been delivered to Hallsta, enabling the preventive maintenance group to use SPM HD, previously available only in online systems, also for portable measurements. The maintenance department will also begin using triaxial vibration sensor to streamline measuring rounds. A fast and efficient system is required in the new organization, as more data points are to be handled by each PM inspector.
Niclas Eriksson, Preventive Maintenance Manager, comments on the investment in new instruments: ”Our existing instruments, one of which is of another brand, were old and needed to be replaced. Since we have good experiences from the SPM equipment in use elsewhere here at Hallsta and we want to work with common techniques, instruments and software throughout the plant, we chose to replace the old instruments with Leonova Diamond. Using the same type of instruments and measuring techniques, our preventive maintenance technicians can more easily help each other out with condition monitoring tasks.”
SPM thanks Hallsta for continued confidence and look forward to further cooperation in the future.
